About MARS
Know who pays. Get paid.
Michigan Auto Reimbursement Services (MARS) recovers the auto No-Fault and workers' compensation money Michigan providers are owed. We find the coverage, prove it, and stay on the claim until the carrier pays.
Proven results
MARS has recovered more than $40 million in auto No-Fault payments for Michigan hospitals, money that would otherwise have been written off or billed to the wrong payer.
Patients first
The patients we help are rarely looking for us. They are focused on recovering from a serious injury, and their families are worried about how the bills, the lost paycheck and the care at home will be covered.
MARS takes that worry off their shoulders. We open the claim with the auto carrier, help the family complete every benefit application, and work to secure wage loss, replacement services and the care their loved one needs, now and in the future. When the insurance worry is gone, patients can focus on healing. That is better for the patient, the family and the hospital caring for them.
Why it matters
Auto accident patients are some of the highest-cost, longest-stay patients a hospital or post-acute provider treats, and some of the easiest accounts to lose. By the time the patient arrives, the accident may be weeks old. The referral lists health insurance. Nobody asks how the injury happened. The claim goes to the wrong payer, sits, and gets written off. That money is owed, and most of it can be recovered when someone gets the facts right early.
What we do
Front-end benefits. We confirm whether auto No-Fault or workers' compensation applies, which carrier is responsible, the claim number, the adjuster, the date of loss, and the PIP coverage level, before the bill goes out.
Collections. We follow each auto account through to payment: billing packets, records requests, adjuster follow-up, and statutory interest when a carrier pays late.
Providers can use front-end benefits, collections, or both.
Hospitals and post-acute providers
We do the same work for post-acute providers that we do for hospitals: long-term acute care hospitals, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, home health, attendant care and brain injury programs.
Post-acute providers often meet an auto patient weeks after the accident, after the auto information has been lost in the transfer. We find the coverage at referral or admission, open or confirm the claim, help the patient and family complete the benefit applications, and follow every bill through to payment. The patient moves to the next level of care without an insurance gap, and the provider is paid by the party that owes them.
On site, not on the sidelines
Our field benefit analysts work on site with Michigan hospitals and post-acute providers, alongside admissions and case management, so auto coverage is caught at the front door, not months later in billing.
